Dubai Drydock as it used to be in around 1975

In 1973 Dubai Drydocks Company awarded a construction contract to Taylor Woodrow and Costains - both UK Construction Companies. They kept a film record of Drydocks' construction. This film was not shown publicly. It was used to impress potential Clients. Clip is from video recording of a recent film showing of that film.

Dubai Drydocks' construction was unique. Its main structures were built on dryland with each 3,500 ton Caisson transported to the water's edge by railway, lowered into the sea by hydraulic lift until it floated in the sea, towed into postion then sunk to sit on the sea bed. All 3,500 ton Caissons fitted together as a giant jigsaw puzzle.
