Dubai's Shindaga Tunnel Construction

Sir William Halcrow and Partners (UK) were Sheikh Rashid's Consultants for his major construction projects in 1970s and 80s. Shindaga Tunnel was one of those major projects. Halcrows commissioned a film explaining the Tunnel's construction and Halcrow's role in its design. Sir William Halcrow and Partners is now Halcrow International. To celebrate UAE's 40th Birthday, Halcrow International restored their historic photos, created videos from restored films and made these available to the public.

This remarkable video of Shindaga Tunnel's construction shows Dubai as it used to be around 1975. The video becomes very technical towards its end but it is worth continuing to watch to appreciate how innovative Dubai was in the 1970s. Plus you will see aspects of Dubai that were everyday scenes in 1970s but are now almost forgotten.
