1970 Jumeirah Beach

Dubai's First Waterfront Properties 1970

Sheikh Rashid built Villas on Jumeirah Beach in the late 1960s to house Port Rashid construction staff. Costain Construction built and paid for the Villas as part of their Construction Contract with Sheikh Rashid.

“running water in every room took on a new meaning !”

But ownership of these Villas reverted to Sheikh Rashid as soon as Port Rashid was completed. Some Villas were built close to the water's edge. During stormy weather, waves could roll up the beach and break into these Villas causing damage. Running water in every room took on a new meaning!

Nevertheless these villas were an idyllic place to live. Jumeirah Beach had yet to be adversely affected by Dubai Drydocks and Fishing Harbours construction. Water depth was shallow to about 100 meters offshore and free of strong currents. It was safe for families and young children to swim and play.

From late 1990s onwards these Villas were demolished to make way for much Grander and Expensive Villas.
