Originally built and opened in 1977 to house people working on Jebl Ali Port Construction. Jebel Ali Village became home to many people of different nationalities until it was closed for redevelopment around 2008.
Jebel Ali Village developed its own unique Dubai Lifestyle mainly due to its "isolation" from Dubai City. JA Village was self sufficient and residents had no need to travel to Dubai, particularly if they worked in Jebel Ali Port. The Village had a School, Recreation Club, Supermarket and a Clinic.
Jebel Ali Recreation Club was one of very few original expat haunts left intact in Dubai. Like a favourite jacket, it is worn but comfortable, food is good and affordable and the atmosphere excellent. Smiling staff, heated and cooled swimming pool, depending on the outside temperature!
