Old Bastakia
This is a unique collection of images providing aerial views of Dubai as it used to be.

The Chartered Bank Building originally housed The Eastern Bank. CHartered Bank took over the Eastern Bank in the mid 1970s. The Builders Board and fencing are probably because the building is undergoing external alterations after the takeover.
Dredging work appears to be in progress at Dubai Creek's entrance. Around the mid 1970s Dubai Creek was being dredged to 20 feet depth and the dredged material used to reclaim Deira's foreshore.
Jumeirah Mosque was built around 1978 but this photo may have been taken later. The shopping malls have yet to be built as is Spinney's Supermarket.
Date is unknown but probably 1970s given the lack of buildings in the surrounding area. Note the elevated Water Tank which used to be a common sight throughput Dubai. These stored fresh water and supplied Dubai's domestic fresh water distribution system.
Port Rashid is nearing completion. Dubai Airport has only one runway. Large McDermott's Barge is sailing out of the Creek loaded with fabricated accommodation for Dubai's offshore oil terminal..
Dubai Creek Tunnel was probably open when this photo was taken since there is a double carriage road and traffic is using the road. Plaza Cinema can be seen along with Dubaiside vegetable market.
Photo shows two storied apartment type buildings. These had disappeared by 1971.

Large diesel engines and generators provided Dubai's power in 1960s and 70s. Power Station located on Al Maktoum Street. To the right of the roundabout is a large block building. This is Deira Cinema. Just past the roundabout on the left are the old Dubai Municipality Offices.

Two storied white coloured Creekside building is Bayt Al Wakeel.
Cargo is being discharged at Dubai Creek wharves which indicates photo was taken prior to 1972 when Port Rashid formally opened.

Royal party flying either to or from Pakistan for a Hunting Trip accompanied by their Falcons. Date unknown.
