Al Nasr Engineering Co. Workshop in Port Saeed Industrial Area Dubai 1970

Al Nasr Engineering Company

In 1970 Al Nasr Engineering Company was part of the Kuwaiti owned Al Nasr Trading Company. They offered a well equipped machine, welding and electrical workshop supported by skilled tradesmen. Al Nasr was one of a very small number of Companies providing engineering services in Dubai 1970. Led by their General Manager Harry Hoyle, a dour Yorkshireman from UK, Al Nasr gained a reputation for the quality of their work. Their Customers came from the Oil, Gas, Offshore and Marine Industries.

Location, Location, Location!

Al Nasr Engineering Co. was located in Port Saeed Industrial Area adjacent to the Clock Tower Roundabout. Most of Dubai's 1970 industries were located here including Dubai Technical Training School and Dubai Municipality's Fire Station. By the early 1980s, Port Saeed Industrial Area became valuable real estate due to Dubai's expansion. Slowly these Companies relocated to new industrial areas further out of town. Port Saeed area developed into an upmarket area with showrooms, hotels and offices.

Cars as they used to be!

Cars in the photo are 3 Volkswagens, an Australian Holden and Mini Moke, an ex British Army Bedford Truck plus a Toyota Corona. Al Futtaim Motors started importing Toyota Cars in the late 1960s. In 1970 there were not many Toyota cars on Dubai's roads. That situation would soon change!
