Dubai's Creekside waterfront as it used to be in 1970
Dubai's Working Waterfront
Dubai Creek was still Dubai's centre of trade in 1970. Cargo flowed through Dubai Creek to regional areas such as Iran, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, Oman, India and as far afield as East Africa. Dubai's Creekside was yet to be reclaimed. Creekside buildings were still modest - mainly apartment accommodation with shops below. Traffic was light. No expensive cars - just "every day" working vehicles - Landrovers, Mercedes Benz (the local favourite), various American cars and a Peugeot 404.
