Dubai's Dirt Donks as they used to be!
Move
Dubai Dirt Donks were born in 1978 in an OTAC office on the old Sharjah Road. Two RM400 Suzuki dirt bikes were imported by Yousuf Habib Al-Yousuf for the DDD.
Sheikh Mana Al Maktoum generously allowed the Dirt Donks to use his old Al Nasr Football Ground next to the Sheikh Rashid Hospital.
Various multinational construction companies helped Dirt Donks to build Dubai's first and only purpose built ‘Supercross’ Stadium near to Rashid Hospital.
The new Al Nasr Stadium was being constructed nearby. Large quantities of subka (sandy soil) had been removed for an Astroturf Football Pitch to be laid. This subka was used to build the biggest ‘double-jump’ outside the U.S.A!
September 1979: The Yamaha Corporation of Japan sent its International Motocross School to Dubai to provide training for DDD. Trainer was three times Japanese 250cc Champion Mr Katsutoshi Iwao.
DDD soon grew to over 100 Members
Dubai Dirt Donks organised an annual Motocross Championship that ran from September to May and is still run today.
Dubai Dirt Donks developed ino a family Club. Soon Fathers, Mothers, Sons and Daughters were riding bikes.
A desert training course was set up behind Dubai's Metropolitan Hotel within easy reach of The Red Lion!
Barry Hope and Graeme McFarlane started the Dubai Dirt Donks in 1979. Today the DDD has become the Dubai Motocross Club. Barry Hope owns and operates Gulf Sport Racing LLC at Dubai's Autodrome
