Old Bastakia
Fresh eggs were non existent in 1971 unless you owned chickens. Most Grocery Store sold eggs that had been pickled. Maybe fresh eggs could be found for sale outside Dubai.
An Expatriate capitalized on this scarcity. His brother owned a chicken farm near Heathrow Airport in London. They arranged for fresh eggs to be flown to Dubai by BOAC's new daily VC10 service from London to Dubai.
Eggs were initially sold only to friends. Word of mouth meant the "friends list" grew. Quantity of fresh eggs being flown into Dubai also grew. Soon a local Grocery Store decided to get in on the act and began importing fresh eggs. Before long fresh eggs were freely available in all Grocery Stores.
Demand for fresh eggs grew as Dubai's populution grew until it became viable to develop and operate Chicken Farms in the UAE.
