Ivor Browne provided this unique 1963 photo. He lived and worked in Dubai in the early 1960s. Photo epitomises Dubai Creek as it used to be. Dhows sailing up the Creek and rowing abras ferrying passengers across the Creek were typical of Dubai Creek until the late 1970s. Several moored rowing abras (bottom left) shows how important rowing abras were to Dubai's daily life.
Even more remarkable is how many Wind Towers line the Dubai side of the Creek. Most were demolished in the late 1960s and early 1970s to make way for modern commercial buildings.
