The Raft Race had out grown the
Creek and moved to Mina Seyahi. There
was more space and facility to cope
with the increasing number of Teams
and watching crowds. The Raft Race
was now attracting Corporate Sponsorship.
Food and Drinks Stalls, live Music,
Toilets, Crowd Barriers and controlled
parking were now part of the Dubai
Raft Race to cope with the increasing
popularity of the event.
Security was now also an element
with Dubai Police providing a watchful
eye.
The racing was aggressive as ever
with teams fight for water space
with no holds barred.
There was an increasing number
of Ladies Teams competing for Trophies.
The Raft Design was still 45 Gallon
Oil Drums welded together. But more
sophisticated welding was used to
reduce weight and streamline the
Raft. They were still hard to push
through the water!
Mina Seyahi saw Novelty Rafts
being entered into special classes.
They did not race but were assessed
on novelty.
